Unit Twelve ’1st Anniversary : Paper’ Exhibition

Well I’ve been going on about this exhibition for long enough and I gave you a sneak peek at some of the work I had included in my piece… so here it is! Unit Twelve had it’s ‘first anniversary’ Paper Exhibition private viewing late last Saturday afternoon and boy was it busy?!

I had been at my studio within the space from lunchtime and had the pleasure of observing Jennifer Collier (resident artist and owner of Unit Twelve) conduct the second day of her Resin Jewellery workshop. One of the many perks of having my studio here is the environment that occurs when workshops are taking place, there are moments when everyone is chatty, enquiring about each others progress and so, then suddenly a silence falls as everyone becomes completely absorbed in their pieces…you can read more from workshop participant Sally Fort here.

The private viewing commenced as soon as the workshop ended as many of the participants stayed to enjoy the exhibition and the now renown ‘making’ activity that is supervised by Jennifer’s wonderful assistant Louise Wilson and on this occasion we were tasked with making and decorating paper watering cans inspired by Jennifer’s work in the exhibition. As both adults and children got heavily involved in selecting papers, cutting out templates and picking out buttons and such for decoration, more and more people filled both the exhibition and workshop/studio spaces.

I had the pleasure of meeting fellow exhibitors Ruth Singer, Claire Hillerby and Phiona Richards (Rare Notions) who had made the journeys for the viewing and caught up with Mandy Clayton and Cynny Saddington, my tutors from my studies at stafford college. Drinks and cakes were scoffed all afternoon and dried PVA glue was peeled from fingers while enjoying the amazing exhibition Jennifer has curated. Many of the artist have created new pieces of work specifically so It’s a wonderful opportunity to see them up close in this fantastic setting. The exhibition and studio space are open Thursday – Saturday 10-4pm til 30th July so why not come over to hi say and have a cuppa with us….you know you want too.
